September 13th -- The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society will be conducting Auditions for the 2010-2011 Season

  • Auditions begin at 6:30 pm by appointment at La Plata United Methodist Church, 3 Port Tobacco Road (intersection of Routes 6 and 301)
  • Auditions will consist of vocal warmups, pitch matching and vocal exercises to determine the singer's vocal range
  • No prepared piece is necessary
  • High School singers and up are welcome
  • The Choir meets regularly from September -- June, rehearsing at the La Plata United Methodist Church on Monday evenings from 7 - 9 pm
  • The Choir produces three different concerts throughout the year

September 15 & 16 -- College of Southern Maryland Auditions for "The Pirates of Penzance"

  • 6:00 - 9:00 pm, College of Southern Maryland LaPlata Campus, Fine Arts Building, 8730 Mitchell Road, LaPlata, MD
  • Auditions are open for those 14 years of age and older
  • To audition, prepare 16 bars of a musical piece, and bring piano accompaniment for the pianist
  • Also, prepare a short memorized monologue and expect cold readings from the script

  • Annmarie's annual fine arts festival weekend of artsy activities and wonderful shopping!

  • Annmarie Garden invites artists ages 13 - 19 to submit works of art that confront what it means to be a teen in the world today.
  • This student exhibition will showcase the talent, creativity and perspectives of today's teen culture.

  • An uplifting film based on a true story about how Nelson Mandela, in his first term as South African President, initiated a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land; enlist the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

College of Southern Maryland presents "night, Mother" by Marsha Norman

  • Cause Theatre -- October 14 - 30
  • Each performance will bring to light a different social issue and is designed to be informative and challenging.
  • Each performance will be followed by a facilitated discussion. 
  • Facilitators include trained professionals from the college's counseling center as well as CSM students in the fields of social work, women's studies, theatre studies and health-related fields.
  • Performances will be at all three campuses.
