Kaaren Oakley
Although art has been a lifelong
passion, Kaaren Oakley began painting in watercolor in 1994. She has
studied the medium with accomplished artists such as Anne Bradshaw,
Elizabeth Bygler, Karen Russell and Olivia Trejo.
Kaaren has earned signature status in the Baltimore Watercolor
Society and has also enjoyed membership in The Art League at the
Torpedo Factory; Calvert Artist’s Guild, Escape Artists, and the
Maryland Federation of Art. Her work has been exhibited at the
Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria,
Annmarie Garden in Solomons, North End Gallery in Leonardtown, Quiet
Waters Park in Annapolis, and at the Easton Academy of Art Her work
is currently on display at the CalvART Gallery in Prince Frederick.
Ms. Oakley uses a variety of watermedia techniques in her work, and
is currently painting primarily on a specialized paper called "yupo”
which allows the paint to move and flow more freely. She enjoys
experimenting with inks and acrylics on watercolor paper in a
variety of styles, which may be traditional or playful and
provocative. Although the subject matter is diverse, her love of
nature and animals strongly influences all her work. As a perennial
student, her art is an ever-changing process of discovery, each
piece having a voice of its own.
