Mimi Little
Mimi Little has been drawing and
painting all her life, and she has taken her art to a more serious
level in the last ten years. She now realizes how important it is
for her ideas and experiences to be put onto paper and canvas.
She says, "The depth of understanding increases as one thinks about
what one would like to paint, how the experience or object affects
the artist and how that influence can be translated into a painting
that others can experience. Sometimes the translated thought is more
abstract. Color, shape, line and emotion become more important than
the object. Other times it is more literal, the human figure, a
tree, stones or barns are clearly visible."
Mimi is an artist and an activist. What is important in her life is
reflected in her painting. A visit to artisans in Haiti, and a
project undertaken to preserve decaying tobacco barns in southern
Maryland, led to two expansive sequences of painting
Fascinated by the human figure, Mimi says, “Drawing from life is
pure pleasure and extremely challenging. Literally drawing the
figure or using the figure to go further – not just depicting a
person, a form, but the personality and life of the model is my
goal.”
