CALL FOR ARTISTS
The Arts Council of Calvert County is embarking on a NEW VENTURE in
response to the collective voices of local artists. The opening of
the CalvART Gallery in Prince Frederick is the next step in the
council’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the arts and local artists
in Calvert County.
The absence of a public gallery for the display and sale of artisans
works has been a concern of the Arts Council Board of Directors and
other art advocates for many years. The Arts Council of Calvert
County will be one of only 11 County Arts Councils in the state to
operate an Art Gallery. The CalvART Gallery will be located in the
Prince Frederick Shopping Center, facing Route 4, the main artery
through the county. This strategic location, is adjacent to Mom’s in
the Kitchen Café, an upscale eating establishment, which in addition
to the Farmers Market has contributed to the revitalization of the
town center. The Arts Council anticipates the Gallery will be a
cornerstone of the cultural tourism strategy for Calvert County.
The Gallery display space is approximately 1000 sq ft and is
disability accessible. The Gallery will also feature a smaller
exhibition area for rotating shows and solo artist exhibitions. A
small artist workroom will be available in addition to a small
kitchen area. The Arts Council offices and a conference room will
also be housed in the new space.
Applications are being accepted from visual artists in the following
categories: Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Drawing, Computer
Generated, Pottery, Glass, Jewelry, Carvings and Woodburning.
Artists will be accepted on the basis of quality of their work and
diversity of the gallery. An application packet is included for your
convenience. Additional packets are available upon request from the
Arts Council Office, 410-257-7005.
Artists applying as exhibiting members of the Gallery prior to May
1, 2005 will be designated as Founding Members with an initiation
fee of $200.00 and a monthly rental fee of $50.00. Thereafter the
initiation fee will be $250.00. Artists will receive 80% of the
selling price of their works.
