Local artist Janet Jones' design was chosen as the logo for the Trail at its inception in 2016. She painted a barn with a quilt square using the colors of the Maryland flag, and border colors of blue and green to honor Calvert County's rich farming traditions and the abundance of the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River. The Southern Maryland tobacco barn is a well-loved image in Calvert County. This barn is located mid-county right alongside Barstow Road at the intersection with MD Route 231. Surrounded by gently rolling fields as well as a pond, out buildings and residences, the 30 foot by 80 foot tobacco barn was built in 1955 by tobacco farmer T. Reid Hutchins. The present owner, Henry Guyther, made purchase in 1973. His gracious offer to participate in the Trail helps to continue the legacy of the iconic structure as well as the history and arts of Calvert County.
