1099-1045 Dan Bowen Road, Prince Frederick MD 20678
Kathy Bowen chose the 'Farmer's Daughter' design because, as she says, "I am one." She is a quilter; as was her mother, Mildred Bowen, and grandmother, Nettie A. Bowen. The barn is located on Dan Bowen Road which is named for Kathy's grandfather. The barn where the square hangs was built by Kathy's father, James Bowen, who raised grain crops as well as tobacco until his death in 1984. The barn stores the family's now unused tobacco planter as well as being utilized as a carpentry shop for many projects. The tobacco stripping room remains in the basement of the barn. The land where the barn stands has been in the Bowen family for at least five generations. Currently, Kathy and her son, Jamie Shifflett, operate a cow/calf operation. They are branching out into beekeeping and hope to produce much-sought-after local honey.
