Angela Magpantay

Angela Magpantay is a ceramic artist living in La Plata, Maryland. Her fascination with clay started when she took her then 8yr old daughter, Sophie, for a mommy & me pottery class at VisArts Studio in Rockville. What started as arts & craft intended for her daughter, ended up being an art practice that Angela fell in love with. She described the initial experience as life changing, a harkening back to her childhood when she used to dig dirt in her backyard, in the rural Philippines, mixing it with rainwater to make clay balls or clay houses of sort. Drawn to clay for its tactile and grounding nature, she creates wheel-thrown, hand-built & sculptural pieces. She considers herself a forever student who loves to explore different forms, surface designs and textures and loves pushing clay and different techniques to the limit. Angela has been studying ceramics since 2023 at VisArts Studio in Rockville, MD under the tutelage of Xiaosheng Bi, Robert Devers, Janet Greer & Kim Swanner. Recently, she started studying at Annmarie Sculpture Gardens Clay Studio in Solomons, MD under Ray Bogle’s mentorship. She has exhibited her works at the Concourse Gallery & Kaplan Gallery at Visarts and the Main Gallery at Annmarie Sculpture Gardens.
