Sarita Pandey has been drawing since childhood but began pursuing her art seriously and training at a professional level in 2016. She is a self-taught artist working primarily in acrylics, oils, and watercolor. Her work focuses on portraits, figures, and landscapes, often abstracted to express the emotion and energy of the subject. Bold color, strong line, and expressive form define her style. Her deep connection to color is rooted in her upbringing in India, where brightness, contrast, and light saturate the visual landscape. Her work explores how the human body expresses itself, both when it’s consciously performing and when it’s unobserved or at rest. She makes art to communicate, to honor, to remember, to escape, to shape, to reimagine, to contest, to challenge, to preserve the past, to record the present, to create the future, and even to grieve. Each painting becomes a way of engaging with the world and making sense of it. In 2025, Sarita completed the Barnes-de Mazia Certificate Program, a two-year course in Art History and Appreciation at Philadelphia’s Barnes Foundation. Through this program she learned the “objective method,” a structured approach to analyzing visual relationships within a work of art – color, light, line, space, and form – independent of historical context or artist biography. This training expanded her visual language, sharpened her formal instincts, which she brings to her studio practice in how she engages with both classical and modern art traditions. She draws inspiration from the urgency and color sensibility of modernists such as Matisse, Picasso, Cézanne, and Degas. She is also a seasoned media and communications professional with 20 years of experience of working with TV stations, ad agencies and digital media houses. That background informs her approach to visual storytelling.
