Originally from Colorado, Glenn joined the Navy in 1965. His plan was to see the world. However, his plans, and those of the Navy, didn't exactly coincide. After training in California, then Florida, he was sationed in Maryland. While experiencing some exciting submarine excursions, he not only saw little of the world, his enlistment ended in Maryland, and he never left.
Glenn's interest in carving was influenced by his great grandfather's whittling. Glenn not only whittles wood, but shells as well, and carves various types of stone, wood and antler.
Glenn discovered and honed his stone carving skills while attending classes at the Alexandria Art League in Alexandria, VA. Glenn's first carved stone piece, "Survive," won best in show for the league's student competition. His imaginative creativity takes many turns between human, animal, insect, and fantasy realms. He enjoys the discovery of what he finds within each piece; sometimes seeing the subject immediately and other times having to measurably whittle or carve to get to the end result.
All of Glenn's works include realistic and whimisical artistic depictions. In addition to his stone carvings, Glenn has carved various wooden walking sticks, incorporaring elements such as stone, gems, antler, and leather, to create lifelike renditions and fanciful caricatures.
